Don Lavoie
BACKGROUND
Don first came to Asia in 1975 when he was appointed Vice president, Asia for Lavalin International, establishing offices in Manila, Singapore, Jakarta, Vietnam and Thailand. Don helped to successfully establish Canada’s largest engineering firm in Southeast Asia and personally participated in the tendering and award of over 50 consulting engineering contracts in transportation, energy and Infrastructure development.
Moving to Thailand in 1989 to support contract negotiations for an elevated transit project. The contract was signed in early 1992, but unfortunately the project was cancelled shortly thereafter. Don continued to pursue opportunities in Asia for SNC-Lavalin until joining Bombardier transportation in 1997. As Vice President for Asia he established a regional sales and marketing office to pursue transit opportunities for the world’s leading mass transportation company. He continued to represent Bombardier transportation in Thailand for the Systems Division responsible for business development and sales until retiring in 2017.
